BECA® Column-KZE Hot Degassing
Efficiency and Conservation of Resources

If reliable and resource-efficient liquid degassing with simultaneous sterilization of the product is desired, the BECA® KZE Hot-Columndegassing system is usually the preferred choice.
The quality of process water for the food and chemical industries is subject to strict requirements. The concentrations of gases dissolved in the water—such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and ammonia—play an important role. Oxygen has an oxidative effect and accelerates microbial growth. Carbon dioxide contaminates ion-exchange systems (dissociation into the various components of carbonic acid) and leads to limit values being exceeded, e.g., in pharmaceutical-grade water. Ammonium, as an ionic component, can cause limit values in drinking water and pharmaceutical-grade water to be exceeded.
The BECA® column hot degassing process operates on the degassing principle of combining heating the water or liquid with stripping in a column. Heating the liquid simultaneously sterilizes or pasteurizes it, which is particularly useful in areas with poor water quality.
The water is first heated to temperatures of 72°C or higher in a heat exchanger. This reduces the solubility of oxygen (according to Henry's law) and also disinfects the water.
-
The hot water is then fed from above into a stainless steel packing bed in the degassing column.
-
A stripping gas (usually CO₂ or N₂) is introduced at the end of the column, where it rises in countercurrent to the water. Since the partial pressure of oxygen in the gas is lower than in the water, the dissolved oxygen diffuses into the gas and is thus removed.
-
The large specific surface area within the column ensures high efficiency in mass transfer.
-
Typical residual oxygen concentrations in degassed water can reach values <10 ppb; withBECA® technology, they can even fall below 5 ppb.
With its hygienic design and CIP-cleanable construction, it is ideally suited for the efficient degassing of liquids while simultaneously disinfecting and sterilizing them, for example, in the beverage, food, and chemical industries.
Lowest oxygen levels: With flawless system design and oxygen levels below 10 ppb, we guarantee you outstanding product quality.
The BECA® Column High-Vacuum Degassing System ismanufactured with all product-contacting parts made of AISI 304/316L stainless steel and is the system of choice when low disinfection/sterilization requirements, high purity, and low residual gas levels are paramount.
